General Scope:Solid state
protonics is a burgeoning field focused on the fundamental mechanisms
and ultimate applications of proton transport through solid materials.
The subject addresses both hard (oxide, oxyanion salt) and soft
(polymeric) materials and incorporates advanced experimental methods as
well as advanced computational strategies. Topical areas span from
electrochemical energy systems (fuel cells, hydrogen pumps, sensors) to
biological processes (proton transport across biological membranes)
and elucidation of geological phenomena (hydration of minerals and
water uptake in the earth’s crust). Given the rising urgency of energy
solutions and the key role of solid state protonics in energy
technologies such as fuel cells and batteries and in environmental
technologies such as sensors, this meeting will provide an ideal venue
for lively information exchange.
